The gates opened to a clean start for all 15 horses. From the inside gate, #1 Natural Rise took the lead, with #3 Narukami chasing in second. The field stretched out as they rounded the first turn. The favorite, Mickie Fight, settled into a mid-pack position, slightly forward of the main group.
On the backstretch, Mickie Fight gradually moved up to join the leading group. Dicteon also held a mid-pack position, saving ground and waiting for an opportunity. As the pace quickened, the horses began positioning themselves for the final push heading into the third corner.
Rounding the final turn and into the home stretch, Narukami challenged the front-runner Natural Rise, while Mickie Fight made a decisive move on the outside. With 200 meters to go, Mickie Fight surged to the lead, but was immediately challenged by Outrange on the inside and a charging Dicteon on the far outside.
The finish line saw a spectacular three-way battle between Mickie Fight, Outrange, and Dicteon. As Mickie Fight dug in, Dicteon, with a phenomenal late burst of speed, drew alongside and lunged just ahead at the wire. A photo finish confirmed Dicteon as the winner by a nose.
