As evening fell over Funabashi Racecourse, the dirt racing festival reached its climax. Mickey Fight, the overwhelming favorite with win odds of 1.6, delivered a stunning performance that lived up to the high expectations.
After a relatively even start, No. 5 Saint Honore won the early battle for position and took the lead. No. 7 Shahryar settled into second to set the pace. The first favorite, Mickey Fight, positioned himself comfortably on the outside around fifth place, ready to make a move at any time. A group of strong contenders, including Wilson Tesoro and King’s Sword, clustered in the middle of the pack, while Meisho Hario waited for an opportunity from the rear.
On the backstretch, as the jockeys began to urge their horses on, Mickey Fight started to advance. He effortlessly moved up to second, putting the leading Saint Honore within striking distance. From behind, Meisho Hario also began to improve his position, setting the stage for the final stretch.
Rounding the fourth corner and into the homestretch, Mickey Fight burst into the lead. Overtaking the persistent Saint Honore from the inside and easily holding off the powerful late charge from Meisho Hario, he pulled away from the pack to cross the finish line first. It was a commanding victory, truly a “Yokozuna-style” performance, sealing his back-to-back G1 wins. For jockey Christophe Lemaire, this was a remarkable achievement following his G1 victory the previous day, once again demonstrating his incredible form.
